Joining the Boy Scouts was not just a rite of passage; it was an adventure that taught me invaluable life lessons. From learning how to set up a tent in the rain to coordinating group hikes, every experience served as a stepping stone toward becoming a more effective leader and teammate.

The Foundations of Leadership

Leadership is often romanticized in books and movies, but my time in Boy Scouting offered me a real-world playground to practice these skills. One of the first lessons I learned about leadership was that it’s not just about giving orders—it’s about listening and engaging with your team. During our camping trips, we often had to delegate responsibilities like cooking meals or setting up camp. At first, I thought that being the “leader” meant telling everyone what to do.
